A heartfelt thank you! Anna Mätzener is leaving us
Anna Mätzener is leaving AlgorithmWatch Switzerland in the fall.
When AlgorithmWatch Switzerland launched two years ago, Anna Mätzener became its managing director and has been instrumental in making the organization into what it is today: an indispensable voice of Swiss civil society working to ensure that people benefit from the use of algorithmic systems, and that these systems are used to make societies more equitable, democratic, inclusive and sustainable – whether on platforms like Facebook, Google, and TikTok, or in the police and public administration.
Now, the time for a new chapter has come. Anna, who was awarded a few days ago for the second time for her work at AlgorithmWatch Switzerland as a Digital Shaper, will leave the organization in the fall to pursue new challenges.
"It has been a pleasure and an honor to work for this wonderful organization and to support these important causes," she says. "I will remain close to AlgorithmWatch in the future – and I can already tell that my eyes won’t be entirely dry when I say goodbye to this amazing team. I wish you all only the best!"
Dear Anna, we feel the same way! We thank you for your great dedication and your magic touch – a combination that sets us up, with a growing team and solid structures in place, to keep building on the plans we developed together.
We are also very pleased to announce that Angela Müller will become the new Head of AlgorithmWatch Switzerland starting in November 2022, in addition to her current role as Head of Policy & Advocacy. Under Angela’s leadership, the team has plenty on its agenda for the third year of our existence: We are launching new projects (e.g. on discrimination in recruiting algorithms), are planning campaigns – and the team is expanding: We are looking forward to welcoming two new colleagues very soon. With this set-up, our work will continue seamlessly in close collaboration with the AlgorithmWatch team in Berlin. We are looking forward to the new challenges!
